Timberline FPDFPD
Josh Colgan
How long have you
been with Timber-
line?
Four years
What is your position, and are you a volunteer member or
paid staff?
Lieutenant and volunteer
Do you have a specialty that you do for
TFPD?
Due to the diversity of incidents we respond to, I need to be
a generalist versus specializing in anything specific. That said,
I enjoy mentoring our newer members and carve out time to do
that as much as possible. Additionally, I help maintain some of
the applications we use to drive efficiency for our people and
manage our equipment.
For how many years have you been involved with fire-
fighting? Do you have any other experiences as a first
responder?
Timberline has been my only experience as a first responder
and firefighter
. I’ve worked in adjacent industries supporting
emergency communications and infrastructure, but I had no
practical knowledge of the requirements or training of being a
firefighter before joining Timberline.
How did you get involved in the fire service and specifi-
cally Timberline?
Shortly after I moved to Gilpin County, I woke up to my car-
bon monoxide alarms going off throughout the house. Timber-
line showed up, and after they resolved the issue, we discussed
volunteering. It was never something I had considered previ-
ously, and I decided to learn more about the process. I never
thought I would become as passionate about the fire service as
I have.
What would you like to do for Gilpin County regarding
fire prevention?
Continue to educate residents and visitors about fire mitiga-
tion and risk factors. We live in a unique environment with
distinct weather, topography and other factors that have mas-
sive impacts on multiple aspects of fire behavior and safety. It’s
naturally not something many people think about, especially if
they are new to the area or just visiting.
