Francine L. Robb was born in Denver on July 3, 1927. Her family owned a series of fresh produce market/ butcher stores in Denver until the great depression forced them out of business. The family moved to Apex where they owned a cabin, and cut timber and sluiced for gold to survive. Francine went to third grade at the one room Apex School. Her teacher was Mrs. Edith Carter, wife of Central City Judge Louis Carter. It was a difficult existence, but her time in Apex was always her favorite memory. She graduated from Gilpin County High School in 1946. In 1947 she married Max Thomas Robb. The union resulted in a son and a daughter, her survivors Thomas L. Robb and Jennifer Robb Hall. She worked for the Gilpin County Treasurers Office and helped run the family gift store on Main Street. After 18 years, Fran and Max divorced, and she moved to Lakewood, where she went to work for Jefferson County as a Personal Property Appraiser in the Assessor’s Office for a number of years, and then worked at Best Department Stores. She passed the evening of March 18, 2015 and will be missed by friends and family.
