Local readers will recall

what happened when the

clocks sprung ahead on

March 12, 2023. That was

the night when a cashier took

$500,000 from the cage at

the Monarch Casino and

drove away. The charges against the cashier were

later dropped, but a man involved in the case was

sentenced to prison. The money was never recov-

ered.

The new Gilpin Mountain Kids early learning cen-

ter is seeking its first executive director.

The non-profit organization is trying to hire

someone responsible for the overall leadership,

management, and operational success of the child-

care center, providing high-quality early childhood

education and care for children ranging from infants

to preschool-aged. The executive director will work

closely with the Board of Directors, staff, parents,

and the community to ensure that the center pro-

vides a nurturing, educational, and safe environ-

ment for young children.

Gilpin Mountain Kids hopes to open by fall in the

former Eagles’ Nest building adjoining the Gilpin

Schools complex on Highway 119. Prospective ap-

The Grayson & Leigh Reclaimed Goods shop

closed its doors for good on Feb. 28 after operat-

ing for nearly two years on Eureka Street in Central

City. Store Owner Alexis Solhden posted, “It was

Gilpin County Republican Committees will meet

at 7 p.m. tonight (March 6) at the Gilpin County

Gilpin County’s food pantry is accepting donations

to help feed families in the community. Cash, checks

and credit card donations can be made. Cash dona-

tions can be made at the food pantry at 101 Norton

Gilpin Community Center will host a three-day

lifeguard training course from March 28-30. The

program includes American Red Cross-certified

training from 4 to 8 on Friday and 9 to 5 on Satur-

day and Sunday. Some of the classes will be con-

ducted online, with the remainder taking place in

the pool.

Participants must be able to swim 300 meters non-

stop, tread water for two minutes and retrieve a brick

from the bottom of the pool. The class includes train-

ing in AED, CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding.

Those wishing to attend must be 15 (for those

not seeking employment) and 16 for those seeking

to be hired as lifeguards. The class fee is $100 for

residents and $120 for non-residents. The fee will be

reimbursed for those hired.

Rudolph Ranch board members

sought by Gilpin County

Gilpin County is seeking

nine people to serve on the

new Ranch Property Work-

ing Group (RPWG), which

will explore potential uses for

the 39-acre historic Rudolph

Ranch property purchased by

the county a few months ago.

The county said it primarily

purchased the lands because of

its water rights.

According to a press release,

the Gilpin Board of County

Commissioners is interested

in exploring potential uses

for the property, including

historic preservation, natural

resource conservation, devel-

opment opportunities, and

outdoor recreation. The RPWG

will comprise nine members

representing key stakeholders,

expertise and perspectives.

The BoCC will appoint all nine

positions from interested com-

munity members or county

staff.

Along with two commu-

nity representatives to ensure

community perspectives are

considered, the board is seek-

ing one person for each of the
