CX-90 is luxurious sedan

Mazda is really making progress in the

auto industry, and the latest test car is a

2025 Mazda Premium Plus sedan with

stunning exterior paint in deep crystal

blue mica. The car is assembled in Hofu,

Japan, using labor and parts from Japan.

The Mazda is a plug-in hybrid with a

combined gas and electric horsepower

of 324 hp, and it gets 25 mpg on fuel and 56

MPGe. To put it simply, it is a very efficient

plug-in hybrid that is increasingly popular

with consumers. The hybrid engine works

together with a Skyactiv eight-speed transmis-

sion with paddle shifters.

This Mazda CX-90 is a Premium Plus model

with a white Nappa leather interior. The

three-row SUV design comfortably seats seven

passengers, featuring heated and ventilated

seating, including ventilated seats in the third

row. The second row offers captain’s chairs,

while the front seats include a five-way power

driver’s seat with lumbar support and a five-

way power front passenger seat. Pas-

sengers enjoy a Bose 12 Premium sound

system and a power panoramic moonroof.

The driver can switch from gas to

electric mode with a button. The pow-

er package offers a powerful drive with

traffic sign recognition, which is especially

useful now that schools are back in ses-

sion. It includes numerous safety features,

such as 360-degree panoramic monitors.

Mazda engineers have equipped the vehi-

cle with various safety features, including

lane departure warnings and front and

rear cross-traffic alerts.

The CX-90 features 21-inch alloy wheels

and full LED lighting, along with a compre-

hensive driver’s display showing driving

controls and alerts. It has a long row of heating

and cooling controls, with a center 12.3-inch

console for entertainment and navigation

options. All of these features are included in

the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of

$57,950.

This is a luxury vehicle with stunning

appearance and impressive performance,

equipped with all the latest safety and tech-

nical features. The car is truly perfect and a

pleasure to drive.

The 2025 Gilpin County

fair was a huge event, draw-

ing thousands of people into

Gilpin County July 11-13, and

Gilpin County Parks and Rec-

reation could not have done it

without a plethora of amazing

volunteers.

More than 50 volunteers

joined the Parks and Recre-

ation staff along with the Fair

Committee to ensure that all

events went off smooth and

efficiently. Between setup,

cleaning, signage and run-

ning of events, volunteers

combined for more than 500

hours of time for the fair.

A special 14 individuals, led

by Derek Blake, were crucial

in the inaugural Gilpin County

Mining Competition. Blake

and others helped plan, fund-

raise, set up and run the com-

petition to perfection. This

event was a hit with dozens of

competitions and winner in

different events and classifi-

cations for youth, women and

men’s groups.

More than a dozen sign-up

genius volunteers assisted in

various tasks such as dance

floor setup, signs, fair cleanup

and run various events like

Fabric and Fiber Arts and Big

Top entertainment. Other

volunteers led the Gymkha-

na, Red Neck Relay and barn

activities.

Bennett. The C-team plays at 4:30 p.m., followed by the B

Overnight lane closures planned for I-70Overnight lane closures planned for I-70

Starting next week, drivers can expect overnight

lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-70

between County Road 65 (Exit 248) and Floyd Hill.

The night closures, which will go on through Sep-

tember, will allow crews to move traffic into its final

alignment.

Once paving operations are finished, drivers will

be driving on the new pavement along the eastern

end of the $700 million project. Full-width lanes

and shoulders will be in place for the winter after

the upcoming lane shifts are completed.

CDOT advises drivers to pay extra attention

because the road may look different from the last

time they drove through the corridor and to obey the

posted speed limit of 45 mph.

Drivers should anticipate alternating, single-lane

traffic along U.S. 40 between the U.S. 6 interchange

(Exit 244) and Homestead Road (Exit 247). Work

crews will be conducting utility work and doing ad-

ditional work on the hillside next to I-70 westbound.

Most of the work is taking place between 6 a.m. to

5 p.m. this week and is expected to include 7 a.m. to

3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.

Looking ahead, there will be no scheduled traffic

impacts along the Floyd Hill corridor during the

Labor Day holiday weekend.

According to CDOT, there won’t be any work on

the highway between 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29,

through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2 – the day after

Labor Day.

CDOT recommends using its free COtrip.org app

during the holiday weekend due to expected increas-

es in travelers heading to and from the mountains.

Rock scaling continues

Rock scaling and blasting operations will con-

tinue next week above eastbound and westbound

I-70 between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and

Homestead Road.

Rock scaling may happen after blasting to clear

loose rock above I-70. This work will help in build-

ing bridges and straightening roadway curves to

enhance safety and sight distance in the future.

CDOT advises staying on I-70 since there are no

detour routes. Expect delays of up to 45 minutes

as each traffic queue clears. All work depends on

weather and may change.

Rock scaling usually happens between 9 a.m. and

3 p.m. from Monday to Thursday in both directions

on I-70. The work requires 20-minute traffic stops.

However, it might take up to 45 minutes for traffic

backups to clear the area, with delays possibly last-

ing until 4 p.m.

While the rock-blasting and scaling operations are

on I-70, traffic holds could also occur on the Central

City Parkway, County Road 314, U.S. 6, and U.S. 40.

Construction related to the Peaks to Plains Trails

along U.S. 6 (Clear Creek Canyon) in Jefferson

County between Black Hawk and Golden is also ex-

pected to continue on week-

days in August. Traffic will

be restricted to a single lane

at different times between

5 a.m. and 7 p.m. from mile

points 267 to 271.5.

CDOT is repaving the

section of I-70 between Chief

Hosa (Exit 253) and the

Morrison Road/Colfax Exit

(Exit 262) this month. Expect

shoulder closures in the area

during daytime hours. Road-

side signs will inform drivers

of lane restrictions during the

work.

‘25 season a rebuilding year for volleyball team

High School’s girls’ volleyball

team will rebuild this season,

it will endeavor to continue

the winning tradition it’s es-

tablished the past few years.

“I graduated six of my seven

starters from last year,” said

Coach Christopher Rouse. “I

will be trying to replace the

players who graduated with

members from the JV team

from last year. There will be a

lot of new faces on the court.”

Senior Elise Vincent, an

outside hitter, will be the

sole returning starter for the

Eagles in 2025.

The varsity roster is ex-

Last year, the Eagles fin-

ished 14-11 overall but got

better as the season pro-

gressed. “I was really proud of

the team from last year,” said

Rouse. “We went to regionals

as the No. 27 seed. We upset

the host team, No. 10 Range-

ly, in five sets. We were up

two sets to one against No.

15 Hoehne before losing in

five sets. With so many new

players on varsity, we are

working on finding everyone’s

position where they can best

help the team. Our schedule is

going to be challenging so we

hope to develop and get better

in the early part of the season

before getting into the league
