The Gilpin County Senior Center has relocated to a new gathering place on South Beaver Creek Road. According to Rose Hosmer, the temporary program coordinator for the center, the seniors were “offered a better place” in which to meet, that they will enjoy. Hosmer took over the position as coordinator for Pat Carr on April 1. She says that she had been his backup for the last four years. The offer for the center came through Jean Lomax, from her daughter, Connie Young, who wanted to rent her summer home to the seniors. There are many upcoming programs being planned at the site. According to Hosmer, Esther Campbell will be talking about birds and a lecture is planned by Nevada Smith about homesteading and ranching. Many of the seniors plan to give lectures on various topics of their specialty. The site will not only be a gathering place, but lunch will be provided Monday through Thursday, after June 1, to those seniors that reserve their lunch a day in advance. The Volunteers of America that sponsors the organization, eventually plan to have crafts for Christmas and even more speakers at the site, Hosmer said. The first luncheon at the new house was held on May 19. It was attended by 17 senior citizens and several people from the Volunteers of America.

Gracie Foster is the employee of the month at the Gilpin County School for April. The employee of the month is selected by Superintendent Fred Meyers and Principal Dan Ryan. In making the selection they stated that “one of the toughest jobs in the district is held by Mrs. Foster. During her tenure, she has worn several hats and assumed a wide variety of necessary, but unassigned, tasks. She is the teacher’s friend, the administrator’s helper, building lease person and a tremendous source of information for new and veteran board members. Mrs. Foster has served this district in an exemplary manner for over five years while also pleasant and willing to listen to a staff or parent problem. A clear indication of her value to the district is the addition of another staff member, now having two people perform the task that she alone performed in the past. The administration nominates Mrs. Foster as employee of the month as a staff member who has not only grown with the district, but helped the district grow.”
