With First Fridays Art Tour in Nederland
PRESS RELEASE – Art at the Center in Nederland’s Community Center opened their newest show in conjunction with the newly established First Fridays Art Tours in downtown Nederland last Friday, June 7. The show includes returning and new artists with work ranging from paintings, drawings, and photography to quilting, wood, and jewelry arts.
The big draw last Friday was artists’ demonstrations in the multi-purpose room. In addition to conversations with quilters Bette Ventrella and Betty Porter, photographer Catherine Hewins, pan pastel artist Pat Everson, visitors enjoyed hands-on fun with clay artist Jacquie Anderson and silk painting with Serene Skye Karplus. Guests of all ages were encouraged to brush dyes onto silk to produce several “Community Scarves” which will be displayed at the Center beginning in mid-June. Serene also formed silk bowls like the one currently on display in the Gilpin County Arts Association juried show across from the Central City Opera.
