30-year volunteer Kathleen Schrader honored
By Aaron Storms
Kathleen Schrader began as a volunteer just to help get through the long, cold month of January. But she fell in love with the people she was working with and the Volunteer Family she came to know. “It’s for a great cause and the rewards are far greater than the sacrifice of driving from Gilpin County down the hill to Denver every day. We aren’t required to be there every day. However, when I was much younger I had to be there every day and I had the energy then to do so. After photographing hundreds of rodeos and sitting in the information booths for 30 years helping visitors, I still love it!” Walking around with Kathleen and a few friends through the entire campus, it really did seem like a big family with hugs and greetings of volunteers and staff that have been involved for many years.
