19th Annual Tommyknocker Bazaar
By David Josselyn
The holiday season, be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Yule, or Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe, brings to mind one thing: shopping. Okay, they should bring to mind more than that, but you have to admit, more people are out shopping for others (and themselves) this time of year than any other time. If you are going to shop, what better way to do it than in a fun-filled atmosphere full of cheer? The 19th Annual Tommyknocker Bazaar was just the place to do that on Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd and 4th. The historic Teller House in Central City is turned into a Victorian dream world filled with decorations, people in period dress, food, and vendors plenty to share some holiday cheer. The event is spearheaded by Barbara Thielemann and Shirley Voorhies with the help of many others and is only the tail end of a four-day holiday celebration. Thirty-four local vendors lined the rooms selling goods from fine art to wine jelly. Musicians of all ages and types roamed the halls from time to time, although the most adorable were definitely the local brownie scouts. For the kids and kids at heart, they had a coloring contest and a visit from Father Christmas himself! Even the good father was dressed in his late 1800s Santa robes lending to the Victorian air of the place.
