Nederland Area Historical Society
PRESS RELEASE – The decision has been made. Miners’ Days 2013, sponsored by the Nederland Area Historical Society, will move from July 27, 28 to September 21, and 22. After much soul searching and debate, the decision was made at a special trustees’ meeting on Wednesday, June 19. Several factors played into the decision.
When the event was first conceived years ago, it was held at the end of the summer as a celebration of the hard rock mining industry and the sturdy people who founded the Town of Nederland. In more recent years the focus shifted to reach out to the tourist industry. In doing so, the major portion of Nederland’s history faded away and the event lost its historic viability. It also gave up its fiscal responsibility, going into deficit the past few years, due in part to the condition of the economy. As a 501c3 corporation the Nederland Area Historical Society must maintain fiscal responsibility.
