A woman pioneer’s story
By Mary Peery
Mrs. Harriette E. Ford traveled from Maine to Nevadaville in 1860. Her husband had mining interests in Nevadaville, and he traveled before she did. Below are excerpts from two newspaper articles featuring Mrs. Ford. The first article contains a biographical sketch of Mrs. Ford. Since the newspaper article is a biography, I placed it first in reading order. The second features Mrs. Ford’s recollections. She lived in Nevadaville less than a year, before heading to Denver. Both newspaper articles end with her living in Monument, Colorado.
