Water Operator License and

cal duties related to water

Members of the Gilpin

County Republican Commit-

tee and their friends plan to

conduct a roadside clean-up

project along Highway 46 in

mid-county, starting at 8 a.m.

on Saturday, June 7. Par-

ticipants will convene at the

junction of Highway 46 and

119. Breakfast burritos will be

provided for those who help,

and they should bring gloves

and dress appropriately.

Earlier this month, the

Gilpin Democrats took part

in a clean-up event along

Highway 119, one of the two

the group holds annually.

After the events conclude, the

group discusses unusual ques-

tions such as, “Who found the

weirdest thing?” and “How

many Fireball containers did

Black Hawk’s third Found-

ers’ Day is set for Gregory

Plaza from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

on Saturday, June 28. This

free, family-friendly event will

include balloon art and face

painting for children, an Olde

Time Photo Booth, and gold

panning.

The Sugar Britches, Queen

Bees, Kind Mountain Band,

and Sisters of Rock will per-

form during the event. People

will be wearing period cos-

tumes, and there will be food

trucks and additional vendors.

Additionally, two groups

from neighboring Central

City—the Backroom Cabaret

chorus-line dancers and the

Wild Bunch’s gambling shoot-

out show—will be performing.

The celebration commemo-

rates the 1860 gold rush era,

when Black Hawk was estab-

lished by its three founders:

William Lee, Mylo Lee, and

Dr. Frederick Judd. Black

Hawk became the second city

incorporated in the newly

authorized Colorado Terri-

tory in 1862, 15 years before

Colorado achieved statehood

as the 38th state.

High Country Auxiliary

has announced it will host its

annual fundraising pancake

breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m.

on Sunday, July 13, dur-

ing the 32nd Gilpin County

Fair. Tickets are $10 each

for adults, $5 for children

ages 6-12, and free for those

younger.

Organizers say the an-

nual event will offer “the best

pancakes, eggs, sausage and

beverages.” Proceeds will

benefit first responders, the

Gilpin County Food Pantry,

and the Gilpin County Animal

Rescue Team.

The Gilpin Community

Center will offer a three-day

Red Cross Lifeguard Certifica-

tion Training program at the

rec center from Friday, June

6 through Sunday, June 8.

The course will cover AED,

CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard-

ing. Participants who sign up

will need to complete online

training before the classes,

which are for those aged

15 (for classes) and 16 (for

employment) or older. The

fee is $100 for residents and

$120 for non-residents. This

fee is reimbursed for anyone

who is hired. Another require-

ment for taking the test is for

a participant to swim 300

meters non-stop, tread water

for two minutes, and retrieve

a brick from the bottom of the
