April 20—Community Center CLOSED Easter Sunday

Eagles Teen Program —After School Monday-Thursday 4:15-

7:15 p.m. Eagles is an out-of-school program at the Gilpin County

Community Center. We provide free extracurricular opportuni-

ties and a space to hang out for youth ages 12 and up through

high school graduation. All activities and field trips are planned

by our youth program assistants and youth leadership team with

the support of our adult program coordinator. We’ll be provid-

ing transportation from Gilpin County school and will be running

after-school program from 4 to 7:15 p.m., Mondays – Thursdays!

Daily program is free after $25/annual registration fee.

After School Enrichment Camp—Monday-Thursday 4-6

p.m. Ages 5-12. $8/day for residents. Have the kids ride the bus

from school to the Community Center for our licensed childcare.

All day Friday care available 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m., $45/day.

Fit For Life Workout Class —This is a community-focused

workout class for all levels that will include strength, resistance

and cardio. The idea is that we all come together right where we

are and work to encourage and support each other in our personal

wellness journey. The class will be similar in style to a HIIT or cir-

cuit class and will have motivating music, high energy, and plenty

of encouragement and fun!

CDOT encourages I-70 drivers to “slow down, CDOT encourages I-70 drivers to “slow down,

move over”move over”

There have been plenty of recent media reports re-

garding the hundreds of speeding tickets issued along

I-70 around the Floyd Hill project.

As a result, CDOT is reminding motorists to obey

Colorado’s “Move Over Law,” which went into effect

in 2023 to protect all motorists, including passenger

vehicles, emergency responders, tow trucks, util-

ity trucks, construction vehicles and maintenance

vehicles.

The highway law says:

Move over one lane when you see a vehicle stopped

on the roadside.

If you can’t safely move over, slow down to at least

20 mph below the posted speed limit.

On all other roads, the law includes:

In a 40 mph zone, slow down to 25 mph or less.

In a 45 mph or higher zone, slow down by at least 20

mph.

According to CDOT, failing to move over is consid-

ered a serious offense that falls under a Class 2 misde-

meanor traffic infraction. It includes a minimum $150

fine and three points off a driver’s license. Penalties

can increase, depending on the severity of the situa-

tion. If convicted, the offender also could face jail time.

Roadside crashes are preventable, CDOT said, and

following the Move Over Law “should be as automatic

as buckling your seat belt. When you see flashing

lights, hazard signals or a stopped vehicle — move

over or slow down. The more drivers make this a

habit, the safer Colorado’s roads will be for everyone.”

Rock blasting work will continue this week in the

West Section of the $700 million I-70 Floyd Hill proj-

ect between Exit 243 (Hidden Valley – Central City

Parkway) and the Veterans Memorial Tunnels east of

Idaho Springs.

There will be 20-minute traffic holds during the

blasting periods, which could occur several times be-

tween 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays

and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays. Traffic holds could

occur on westbound Floyd Hill, along U.S. 6 near I-70,

along the Central City Parkway and on Clear Creek

County Road 314. It is possible some of the traffic

holds could cause traffic jams that could last up to 45

minutes.

Additional I-70 closures

Drivers should expect various, additional overnight

left-lane closures on eastbound and westbound I-70

between the Hidden Valley interchange (Exit 243) and

near mile point 245 for two traffic shifts.

On Westbound I-70, motorists can anticipate over-

night closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Friday,

March 28, and Saturday, March 29.

Eastbound I-70 drivers could see closures at these

times: 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., Friday, March 28, and 8 p.m.

to 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 29.

Additional eastbound delays

Between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow

(Friday), CDOT said motorist should expect

daytime right-lane closures on eastbound

and westbound I-70 between the U.S. 6

interchange (Exit 244) and County Road 65

(Exit 248) due to construction access, drain-

age and utility work.

Between Black Hawk and Golden, single-

lane traffic delays are anticipated along U.S.

6 (Clear Creek Canyon) this week and next.

The delays are related to the installation of

new Jefferson County hiking trails being

installed near the highway.

The delays could occur between 7 a.m. and

5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with no

work anticipated on weekends.
