Summer in the Rockies Art Exhibit

Central City Showcase Gallery

By David Josselyn

The art of youth is packed away to make room for the Showcase Gallery’s “Summer in the Rockies” exhibit featuring three diverse local artists; Kathy Banich in photography, Robyn Thayer in texturized oils and pastels, and Brad Wood in glazed pottery, reflecting the colors and mood of summer. From the curious focus on herd animals from Thayer, to the stunning animal photos of Banich, to the fascinating patterns and hues on the pottery of Wood that practically glows, this exhibit is breathtaking to see. I was there for the opening reception in the mid-afternoon of Saturday, May 20, and the light of the sun coming in the windows magnified the creations in the room. The one-room Showcase Gallery is the 2nd story of the Central City Visitor’s Center on 103 Eureka Street. “Summer in the Rockies” will be on exhibit through July 14 and every piece is for sale. Gallery Manager Dawn Neu was near giddiness in excitement about the pieces the artists provided for this show. During the opening reception, Dawn said “we already sold three of Kathy’s pieces!” Neu hopes several of Wood’s and Thayer’s pieces sell “because they are so good!” Neu also wanted to remind folks that the Washington Hall Gallery will open for the season next Saturday, May 26, with the juried show. The opening reception will be on Saturday, June 3, starting at 3:30 p.m. with a slideshow by John Fielder.
