At the 72nd Annual GCAA Juried Show
By David Josselyn
The Gilpin County Arts Association hosted the opening ceremony for their annual juried show on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at historic Washington Hall. A juried show is a prize-based event in which artists submit up to three of their favorite recent pieces and jurors select from those submissions the pieces they believe are entitled to be included. The selected pieces are then ranked by an independent judge for prizes in each category; and one special piece is selected from all of them to be Best in Show. All pieces in the juried show will remain hanging in Washington Hall until either sold or August 11, whichever comes first. The longest continuous running juried show in Colorado is known for top-notch works by artists from across the state and this year is no exception. The professional artistry on display is only trumped by the historic charisma of Washington Hall. If that does not convince you, perhaps the words of the artists might entice you to visit and see the marvelous works in person.
