Meet your Timberline Fire board candidates

Vote for Candidates on May 8 th Election By Randy Beaudette Timberline Fire Protection District board hopefuls gathered Timberline Station No. 5 Tuesday evening for a public meet and great. The meeting consisted of a brief bio of each candidate and a public question and answer session. The forum was hosted by the Timberline FPD and moderated by Lieutenant Caleb Kropf. The candidates for the four year term are: Charles (Chip) Smith, Carol Tucker, and Wayne Butler. Candidates for the two year term are: Michel Carlson, Dr. Michel Camarata, Christopher Gay, and Doug Lupo. Charles (Chip) Smith Chip Smith is concluding a four year term as a member of Timberline Board Member. He was appointed Board President in May of 2016 and is proud of the progress that Timberline has made in the last two years. Chip spearheaded the remodel projects of several Timberline Stations, he organized the dedication of Station 2 (Giggey) and Station 6 (Walsh), and worked long hours on the inclusion of the South District. He emphasized that Timberline has been under budget the last three years, they have updated all their facilities and they have formed bonding partnerships with adjacent responding agencies - Gilpin County Ambulance and Gilpin County Sherriff’s office. Carol Tucker Carol Tucker is also finishing up her brief term as a Timberline Board member. The position was vacated by Board member Cheryl Taylor in 2017 and Ms. Tucker stepped in to fulfill the term. She brings to the Board 30 years of experience in accounting, operations, and sales within the insurance and medical communities. Tucker states, “For 21 of those years I worked closely with firefighters as a contracted work force.” She is a member of the Gilpin County Fair Board, a member of the Gilpin County Animal Rescue Team (GCART), and the High Country Auxiliary as a board member. Wayne Butler As a 40 year resident of the Rocky Mountain Front Range, Wayne Butler is a second generation firefighter and has served in both paid and volunteer firefighter positions. His firefighter journey started at the age of 16 as a volunteer and is currently a volunteer 39 years later. Butler is planning on retirement in 2019 and would like to transition into being a Board member. He is currently a pension board member on another volunteer fire department and states, “I would love to help my community by being a Board Member for Timberline Fire Department.” Michael Carlson Michael Carlson is currently serving as the Director of the Gilpin County Public Library. He is a graduate from University of Texas at Arlington and University of North Texas with a degree in History and Literature. Carlson states” Giving back to and being involved in the community is essential for the community to survive, and this is the reason I am running for a position on the Timberline Board of Directors.” Dr. Michael Camarata Dr. Michael Camarata is our local Family Physician with his office located in Nederland. He states that he doesn’t know a whole lot about a volunteer fire department, but he has the passion and drive to spend a considerable amount time researching and concluding what’s best for the firefighters and the community that Timberline serves. Christopher Gay Christopher Gay has been an active volunteer and a career EMT for the past four years in Colorado, with six years of experience in Minnesota. He has personally responded to 175 calls since joining Timberline FPD in 2015. His personal experience includes business management, loss prevention, and fugitive recovery. He believes that the combination of public service and career experience will enable him to help guide Timberline Fire on a path of continued success. Doug Lupo Doug Lupo served as an EMT in Kansas before moving to Gilpin County seven years ago, then as volunteer firefighter here in Gilpin County. As a Gilpin County Employee for the last three years, Lupo feels he has a lot to offer the Timberline Board with his past military experience and EMT training. His intentions are to help ensure our community gets the quality emergency services it deserves. Vote on May 8 The Timberline Board Election will be conducted on May 8, 2018 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm at Station No. 5, next to Taggert’s gas station and convenience store. The physical address is 14908 Highway 119, Black Hawk, Colorado 80422. All residents in the Timberline Fire Protection District are asked to come out and vote to show support for the candidate that will serve our district best.
