Joanne M. Grapes, 73 of Golden, CO passed away December 6, 2018 surrounded by her family at Collier Hospice Center after a hard battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born September 14, 1945 in Spencer, SD to Lawrence and Lorraine (Cobernes) Wise.
Married to Donald D. Grapes on May 30, 1963, they ran the family dairy farm, then they traveled around until they settled in Black Hawk, CO and opened D&J Excavating in July of 1979. This community is where Don and Joanne raised their family, participated in school activities, and was a mother to many and a friend to all who came into contact with her. Joanne worked running the family business with a tight rein, managing up to 40 employees including their three sons, all working together for the success of the business until Don and Joanne retired in May of 2011.
