Construction begins at Devil’s Nose Shooting Range

Near Idaho Springs

Construction is beginning on the Devil’s Nose Shooting Range along Colo. Highway 103 near Idaho Springs, and new restrictions are in place for the duration of construction activities.
At completion, the project will create a safe and resilient shooting environment by installing benches, lanes and backstops, parking, and educational information. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has provided $597,000 in grants to date to help fund the design and engineering costs, the National Rifle Association has contributed $25,000 in grants, and Clear Creek County is providing an in-kind contribution of constructing the entrance and road to the Range during the fall of 2018 and spring of 2019. Construction is currently active and may continue through the spring and summer of 2020.
For everyone’s safety, the area within a half-mile of the construction site north and west of Hwy 103 is now closed to the public for all uses.
The Devil’s Nose Shooting Range is a key component of the Northern Front Range Sports Shooting Management Partnership goal of providing safe, responsible, and accessible recreational sport shooting opportunities. It has been identified as one of a handful of pivotal public shooting ranges needed to implement potential new restrictions identified in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland’s draft decision on the Recreational Sport Shooting Management Project.
Learn more about the Devil’s Nose project and see a map of the restricted area at www.fs.usda.gov.
